Two old men with vastly different temperaments will face off attempting to convince voters for their support in becoming the 47th President of the United States, AND the leader of the free world!
The much anticipated first 2024 Presidential debate is less than a week away, airing on 6/27/24 @ 9PM EDT. Pundits say it’s a highly critical moment in which each man will seek to convince the American public that they are worthy and qualified to hold the highest job in the land and in the free world.
What are the qualities we need in a leader and in particular, a President of the United States? This is what the American electorate will decide on 11/5/24. The choice, although we may not like it, is the reality. Chose wisely.
Before I launch into the chart of the debate itself, here are some personality distinctions between the two contenders or rivals for the highest office of the land. Joe Biden is Sun/Scorpio with Mars also in fixed sign Scorpio (Mars is strong in in it is own traditional sign here.) powerful, strategic, and instinctive. Donald Trump is a Sun/Gemini with Mars in fixed sign Leo (Mars in the Sun’s sign). Media-savvy, bold and fiery. Biden has three planets dignified: Mars/Scorpio in its home sign, Moon exalted in Taurus and Jupiter exalted in Cancer. Venus is debilitated in Scorpio. Trump has no planets dignified and his Saturn is debilitated in Cancer. Biden presents as compassionate, measured and calm, sometimes too calm, (Moon in earthy Taurus) and Trump presents as energetic, verbal, disruptive and often bombastic (Moon in fiery Sagittarius). What could we possibly anticipate in a debate between these two personalities? A Scorpio Mars can sting when threatened and a Leo Mars can scorch anything in its way.
The chart for the start of the debate is cast for 6/27/24 9PM Atlanta, Georgia. The Ascendant (beginning of the chart, House1, left side) is in…wait for it, Capricorn! How appropriate. Descriptions of Capricorn include pragmatic, somber, serious, consequential, ambitious, hard-working, leadership. Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn, and we find it in Pisces where integrity (another Capricorn trait) meets erosion, confusion, dissolution, or the ability to discern what is truly enduring and valuable from what is not. Saturn as the chart’s ruler signifies the importance of this moment, this debate, and how we might have become entangled in various confusions, misinterpretations, and propaganda. Capricorn speaks to core principles that endure (like bones) and provide stability. What are the most important and enduring attributes of a commander-in-chief?
“Integrity is the lifeblood of democracy. Deceit is a poison in its veins.” – Edward Kennedy.
Pluto now retrograde in Aquarius, sits prominently in the First House (the identity or focus of the event). It accentuates the power potential and the vision presented by each man for expressing future power and influence as the next President of the United States.
The vertical axis of the chart (top and lowest points) are at the unstable 29th degrees of Libra/Aries and squared by Pluto/Aquarius (out of sign square). This further increases the prominence of Pluto and its mission for truth (Aquarius) – a future encompassing a wider vision and perspective, including rational international engagement and an understanding of the evolvement of humanity in today’s complex environment.
The spatial placement of the planets in this chart exhibits a pattern called a wedge. Nine planets are encompassed within 120 degrees forming a triangle called a Minor Grand Trine. Pluto is the only planet beyond 120 degrees, increasing its importance and expressing the prevailing consensus that the debate will strongly impact the politics of the Presidential season and catapult it into a new stage. The wedge as a tool has the capacity to exert tremendous force to move energy. It confirms that this debate will drill deeply into existing political and emotional sentiments concerning the two contenders.

There are two clusters (stelliums) of planets – the first holds the Moon in Pisces and the other holds the Sun in Cancer. The Moon is the mood of the day, bounded on one side by Saturn/Pisces and on the other by Neptune/Pisces. These planets are natural opposites, and the Moon is affected by both. Factual Saturn is formal, restrained, serious and disciplined while sensitive Neptune breaches boundaries, dissolves, confuses and offers inspiration. Since the Moon is separating from Saturn, I expect the debate will begin with some decorum and then devolve into various strains of chaotic rhetoric. The second cluster holds the Sun, Venus, and Mercury in Cancer. Cancer ruled by the Moon takes us right back to the Pisces cluster and its dynamics. The Cancer planets are opposite the Capricorn Ascendant and this planetary axis represents the people, the marketplace, the essential protective structures and needs of the social, communal fabric. Since this is a debate, Mercury (language, communication) is important. It is moving away from Venus, which in general would infuse niceties and consideration into communication. Instead, Mercury is moving toward the Moon and Neptune by trine (120deg. angle) and Uranus/Taurus by sextile (60deg. angle), which we’ve already explained.
The two most exact mathematical aspects are: Moon/Pisces 60 degrees to Uranus/Taurus – this outlet from the Pisces cluster gives edginess, harshness, shocks and surprises (but of course, we’re not surprised by that when these two face-off! We’ve seen this movie before.) Essential Pisces is soulful and sensitive. Remember though that the Moon is surrounded by Saturn on one side and Neptune on the other – they must work together as a team. Think of wandering in the forest at night and things appear distorted and unreal, even scary. Fortunately, you have a flashlight (Saturn) which sharpens your focus to glimpse what’s actually there. However, the flashlight has a limited, narrow path of light and you must keep moving it around to see the full environment that you’re moving within. So, there will be some seriously confusing, distorted moments as well as some that potentially inspire and speak directly to our soul and vision. The Moon is leaving its exact joining with Saturn in the chart and heading toward an exact joining with Neptune. There may be comportment initially, but it tends to unravel as the debate progresses.
The second exact aspect is Mars/Taurus 60 degrees to Venus/Cancer. At first glance, it describes the give and take of opposing sides. However, Mars is debilitated in Taurus (ruled by Venus) and can get quite offensive. On top of that, Venus/Cancer is ruled by the Moon/Pisces and we’ve already described the effect of the Moon’s position.
Here's an interesting tidbit that stood out as I looked at the chart of the debate. The Moon clustered in Pisces with Saturn and Neptune in Pisces is the same combo of three planets as on the day Donald Trump was found guilty of 84 felonies by a jury verdict. We can’t be sure exactly what this means for the debate if anything, but it’s notable. For Biden mentioning these felonies delivered by a jury verdict is probably an important point. For Trump mentioning Hunter Biden’s travails is similar. The Pisces Moon is after all deeply sensitive.
