Putin’s ship of state and his leadership have taken a hit and the international community worries about Russia’s stability. Yevgeny Prigozhin, billionaire oligarch, former convict, chef, and confidant of Vladimir Putin, was the leader of the private mercenary army or Wagner Group. He’d criticized the Russian Defense leadership for some time, accusing them openly in video statements of failing to supply his troops with food and ammunition. He’d gone even further to say that the military had manufactured lies for the Ukrainian war, misleading the country and Putin himself about a planned Ukraine and NATO attack on Russia. These lies had cost thousands of Russian soldiers’ lives. Things escalated on 6/10/23 when the Russian Defense Minister announced that Wagner soldiers would have to sign contracts with his ministry which would effectively end the Wagner group.
On 6/23/23, Prigozhin announced he would march to Moscow to confront the Russian Defense ministry after he claimed Russian Defense forces had launched rocket attacks on his soldiers at camp, killing many. The next day he and his mercenaries took over the Russian military command in Rostov-on-don a Russian town on the road to Moscow. Soon, the scenario changed rapidly. Russian President, Putin condemned the insurrection and what he called a coup attempt. Next Alexander Lukashenko claimed he had brokered a deal with and for Prigozhin to go into exile in Belarus. A lot of information about all of this is still unclear, however, it’s been said that Prigozhin’s family had been threatened if he did not take the deal to relocate to Belarus. As information trickles out over time, we’ll hear more of the details. Was Prigozhin counting on help from other military factions that did not materialize?
Yevgeny Prigozhin was born on 6/1/61 in Leningrad, Russia, time unavailable. Without a time of birth, we use a 0 Aries rising chart cast for 12Noon on the day of birth. We lack the benefit of the Rising Sign or start of the wheel, normally designated by the birth-time. By using 12Noon we cut the day in half and get an average of the Moon’s position, the fastest moving body per day (13deg.). Prigozhin has the Moon in Capricorn ruled by Saturn (deliberate, organized, pragmatic, protective, tough).
His birth Saturn @ 29 Capricorn is the most obvious standout because transiting Pluto/Capricorn sits @ 29 degrees right now. A conjunction like this indicates a transformation of his career, status and standing. Prigozhin’s Venus/Aries, a planet of directness, courage, but also impulsiveness, is in Fall (often not acting in its own best interests) and squares his Saturn/Capricorn, currently besieged by Pluto. On 4/20/23, there was a Solar Eclipse @ 29 Aries initiating energy in this part of his chart conjoining his Venus and squaring his Saturn exactly. Eclipses, to simplify, are background energies sensitizing a certain planet or area in the chart. When other planets trigger the eclipse degree afterwards, events of importance take place. Pluto is making the second of four contacts to Prigozhin’s Pluto (and the April eclipse degree) because of its slow and retrograde motion. The first pass was 2/11-3/24/23. This second pass is currently active between 6/11-7/28/23, the third pass is 12/19/23-1/20/24. The final pass takes place 9/1/24-11/19/24. In previous articles I spoke of Mars and Venus currently in Leo. These planets also played a role in Prigozhin’s decisions. On 6/23/23, transiting Mars/Leo was at the approximate midpoint of Prigozhin’s natal Mars/Leo @ 14 degrees and his Uranus/Leo @ 22 deg. spurring both his anger and inherent impulsivity. Transiting Venus/Leo was also conjunct his Mars/Leo. These were all emboldening transits. The included chart shows the highlighted points.
From what we know of Vladimir Putin’s tactics regarding his enemies, or opponents, perceived or real, we might be concerned that Prigozhin is a dead man walking.
