Some were initially surprised that Tim Walz was chosen as Kamala Harris’ V.P. As it turns out, this “Plaid Dad” down to earth, affable, dedicated warrior of good-will appears to have been an excellent pick.
While watching the Democratic convention and listening to Tim Walz accept his nomination as Vice President something sweet, spontaneous and truly genuine happened. At the end of his speech, Walz’ son, Gus, age 16 who is neuro-diverse, stood up, looked around and stated repeatedly to whomever would listen, “That’s my dad. That’s my dad.” It was so touching – pure emotion and love – it brought tears to my eyes. It was a beautiful moment.
Somehow that moment has stayed with me, and I like to think of it as the contrast between the two campaigns. The mean-spirited, rude, disrespectful, misogynistic, fearmongering, darkness of the GOP campaign and the joy, kindness, uplifting, genuine, laughter-filled, positive, future-forward campaign of the Democrats. Of course, there’s more to the story and policies matter. But the feelings that are generated matter too, a great deal to my way of thinking. Those feelings armed with solid policies are a winning combination, at least for me.
Tim Walz has served his country in the military and as Governor of Minnesota. His prior career path was as school-teacher and sports coach.
Unfortunately, we do not have a birth-time for Tim Walz. However, we can glean some important personality distinctions from planets that won’t change degrees during one day. What immediately stands out is Tim’s cluster of three planets in fiery Aries – Mars, Sun and Jupiter in that order. Mars in Aries is in its own sign and the Sun is exalted (operates optimally in this sign) in Aries. General characteristics of Aries are action, purposefulness, courage, animation, warmth, enthusiasm and willingness to lead and take a stand. Those with strong Aries placements don’t wait for others to make the first move. Walz’ Sun is in a tight inconjunct (150 deg. angle) to Neptune in watery Scorpio adding a depth of sensitivity and compassion to the sometimes-impetuous fire of Aries. Note, placements in anyone’s chart need to mature over one’s lifetime and often through trial and error. His Venus in Gemini loves conversation and he’s likely good at bantering with just about anyone he meets. Venus too receives modification via a square to Saturn/Pisces, striking the same note of mixing sensitivity with how one communicates. Saturn opposes UranusRx/Virgo demanding that precision and accuracy be accounted for in communication. Uranus also squares Venus/Gemini forming a T-square (triangular pattern). Sagittarius, expressing itself in the open space of the 3-pronged pattern (4th place) often pertains to sports, philosophy, willingness to take risks and generosity of spirit. In addition, Uranus forms an exact trine with Mercury/Taurus (harmonious earth energies) and they both trine/sextile the Nodes of the Moon in Cancer/Capricorn forming a Grand Trine in sturdy and stable earth signs. So far, these energies point to an active person who is interested in problem solving, taking things in stride, while attending to the special sensitivities and uniqueness of others.
Because we don’t have time of birth for Tim Walz, we can’t be sure of his Moon sign. If he was born before 6AM his Moon is in Capricorn. After about 6AM, his Moon would be Aquarius. My guess would be early Aquarius where Pluto has been crisscrossing (between 0 Aquarius and 29 Capricorn, since he accepted the nomination). Right now, Pluto is at its final 29th degree in Capricorn, making its last stand there, leaving on 11/19/24 never to return to Capricorn for another 248 yrs. Transiting Pluto is actively squaring Walz’ Jupiter 28 Aries, pushing him to express as much of his good-will message in his expansive, dynamic and energetically sensible way.
His Mars/Aries inconjuncts UranusRx/Virgo adding the need for a precision and accuracy component to his gregarious direct modus operandi and a bit of a rebellious streak. He has his own way of doing things and he shows up as a bit quirky but likeable, warm and accessible. His actions are modified by attention to important details, and he understands the devil’s in the details. He’s someone who’s willing to go the extra mile, is intent on achievement and assisting (coaching, supporting) others to achieve as well. His down-to-earth Mercury in Taurus grants him the practical salt of the earth wisdom and natural good-will that he appears to exhibit. What you see is what you get with Tim Walz and he doesn’t need or want, to put on airs!
