Neptune At 29 Pisces –
Blurring the Lines – Illumination, Unification or Disappointment and Delusion
Neptune reached the pivotal 29th degree on 5/3/24 for the first of three times. It remains at that degree through 9/2/24 (four months!) A planet sitting at the last degree of a sign makes a strong summation statement, reminding us of its influence over the course of its transit through the sign. Neptune entered Pisces in February of 2012. One of the three outermost plants, Neptune governs collective cultural forces and social mores. Consider the cultural, social, and political changes we’ve experienced since 2012. Where or how have we become disillusioned, lost faith, been in denial or otherwise lost our way? How can we restore our faith, our beliefs and reach to higher expressions?
Neptune provides all available options for transcending or denying reality.
It’s the ultimate escapist. Neptune offers all forms of escape from the drudgery of daily life and that is an essential human need. Whether you choose positive or destructive ways to escape is the issue. You decide if you want to be beguiled, persuaded, seduced, or bamboozled, Neptune gladly complies. The same is true if you want to focus on the goodness of life and believe that with effort and willingness we can make things better.
Neptune’s archetypal nature naturally seeks the ideal, the dream, in all manifestation but in that process, we must plow through the baseness of human nature to reach a smidgeon of the divine, the ecstatically perfect moment. Neptune yearns for, seeks, and often too provides inspiration, or the capacity of “far- sight” (an old term meaning insight or psychic ability). It offers inspiration abundantly through the arts, music, and all forms of natural and created beauty. All this to lift us up from the concerns and demands of the mundane.
A spiritual anchor is needed in the ever morphing, dissolving realm of the Lord of the Sea, Neptune, or Poseidon. Spiritual practices help ground you in compassion, forgiveness, and faith. Although, this can be taken to extremes when fervent beliefs prompt foisting those beliefs on others. Each person has the right to their own conclusions concerning life’s stimulation (sometimes assaults on our sensibilities) and what it all means. Though, when we lose meaning, we lose the plot. Neptune suggests there is something beyond the day to day, something that connects us to each other. We are all life travelers on planet Earth which requires mutual empathy and compassion. How we live life or how we contribute to life is part of that meaning. The balance between give and take is essential. Do we have a responsibility to the process of life and living to ourselves and to others or are we here merely to grab, use, and accumulate?
Neptune is tricky and sticky. Confusion, stress, overload, denial, misinterpretation, vagueness, fabrication, lies, boundary violations are some of its sticky traps as it seeks escape from the pain or boredom of the mundane.
Working effectively with Neptune means we must consider the inner working of situations, the hidden factors, and our relationship with the soul. The delicate, sensitive private place where you live, where no-one else goes, what no-one else knows…unless you choose to share this private space, these private thoughts. Neptune is the realm of dreams, chimera, fantasy, projection and how we delude ourselves or despair when our desired ideal or dream does not come true. The world of Neptune is constantly dissolving, undoing, and reconfiguring which is easier to navigate if we are in touch with our soul energy, faith, and beliefs.
The Technicals
Neptune reached the pivotal 29th degree on 5/3/24 and remains at that degree through 9/2/24. Within those four months, Neptune makes its Retrograde Station (stopping and turning around) at 29 on 7/2/24, accentuating its potent messages. It’s likely to be a powerful Fourth of July as many are disillusioned with the state of things and the attacks on democracy.
Neptune turns Direct again at 27 degrees on 12/7/24 where it turned Retrograde 6/30/23. All this back and forth crossing over previous degrees helps us digest the situations that have emerged, so that we can better understand what is happening, how we feel about it and what needs to be done. For the second time on 3/4/25, Neptune returns to 29 and then slips for the first time into the next sign, Aries. For the third and last time on 10/22/25 Neptune reaches 29 degrees again, turns Direct at 29 on 12/10/25 and remains until 1/26/26 (three months). After that point, it fully escapes into the next sign Aries, never to be seen again in Pisces for another 164 years. And Neptune in Aries will be a story for another day.
On 9/3/24, Neptune makes an exact sextile (60 deg.) to Pluto also just having returned to 29 Capricorn for the last time. Being so close to the next Presidential election, around this time, we may be witnessing a major revelation of sorts that concerns our relationship to government, politics, leadership and the various disappointments, loss of faith and trust we feel. Mars in Gemini and the Moon in Virgo trigger both Neptune and Pluto, so the days surrounding this date could produce difficulties. As always, it’s personal if you have planets or points close to 29 degrees. Check in with your astrologer for personal interpretations.
At the 29th degree something is ending and something new is gestating. With Neptune at the very tail end of the Zodiac about to enter Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac it’s a time to be attentive. It’s a pivotal place full of magic and possibility but fraught with misinterpretation and trickery as described previously. It takes exquisite care, contemplation, attention, and nuance to birth a fresh ideal or aspiration. More so to understand the ideal that is essential for a new movement of spiritual awareness and human evolution.
